Grinshill and Corbet Wood
This route is a 1-mile walk to the viewpoint on Grinshill or a 2.5-mile circular walk around Grinshill & Corbet Wood.
Located near to Grinshill Village, the Grinshill Quarries are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) as designated by Natural England.
Lying within the boundary of Corbet Wood, which is owned by Shropshire Council having been gifted by the Acton Reynald Estate and managed by the Shropshire Great Outdoors team.
The area has been quarried extensively, principally for the pale Grinshill Sandstone, which was used for Lord Hill’s Column (1814-1816), Haughmond Abbey, Shrewsbury railway station, the Welsh Bridge and many local buildings and bridges in the Shrewsbury area. The stone is valued for its colour, durability, strength and consistency.
There remains one active quarrying site which continues to supply Grinshill stone, but the remainder of the sites form part of the rich and diverse industrial and increasingly natural heritage.

Walking in Shropshire has loads of walks to download and print, free. It also has books of walks, details of all the walking groups in the county, and much more. Whether you want to walk on your own or with a group, all the information is there in one place.
John Harris (who maintains the website) said, ‘There is so much walking information on the web, but it is difficult to find. Walking in Shropshire (part of the Walking in England website) has brought it together in one place, so whether you are walking from home, or away on holiday, you will be able to find a walk suitable for you’.
With walks from half a mile to twelve miles plus long, and a note of suitability for pushchairs and wheelchairs, everyone can find a walk to enjoy.
